What is automatic delivery? Our sophisticated computer programs monitor closely the consumption that your home has during the year. It calculates, based on current climatic conditions, the amount of fuel used and prompts us for a delivery. Although remote, it substituted the need for you to monitor your fuel gauge.
Do I really need a sludge additive? Additive is needed when you have a sludge buildup in your heating oil tank. Basically, it is dead algae/bacteria that grows from condensation in your tank and after time dies and sinks to the bottom of the tank. The best thing to do is to give us a call and we will gladly check it out for you.
When should I use kerosene? This depends on the type of furnace that you’re running and the manufacturers recommended fuel. If you have any doubt please give us a call and we will gladly find out for you.
Is dyed kerosene safe to use? Yes, it is quite safe to use in the correct application, and right furnace. As a rule of thumb dyed kerosene is used on furnaces and heaters that have a chimney or exterior venting system. In other words - not in portable ones that are kept inside the house.
I have an outside tank, what fuel should I use? Depending on the type of furnace that is installed as a rule of thumb kerosene is used whenever a tank is exposed to the weather. Kerosene has a lower gelling point than #2 fuel oil and thus stays liquid in extreme cold. We also provide an economical substitute called winter mix. This is a mixture of kerosene and #2 fuel oil. It reacts well to the cold weather and is more economical than straight Kerosene.

Do you have Specials / Discounts? Kreiser’s always has specials going on. For senior citizens we always automatically discount #2 fuel oil. But the best is always to call in and check out what special are going on for the current month.
What do you do during a furnace clean and service? Our certified technicians will take time in disassembling portions of the boiler to inspect for any cracks, leaks or potential defects. Everything is vacuumed (and sometimes chiseled out) so that there is a clear exchange between the chambers. A new nozzle and oil filter is installed. The electronics are tested as well as the exhaust flue, making sure that it is clear. The following tests are performed:
- Efficiency % test
- Smoke test
- CO2 % test
- O2% test
- Draft over stack test
- Draft over fire test
- Stack temp test vs. Ambient for Net Stack temp
- Safety works test
- Air filter
- Pressure test
Everything is thoroughly inspected.
How long should a furnace last? Although manufacturers state guidelines for the duration of their furnaces, it is obvious to us that this depends on various factors. How much is it in use? Is it given good maintenance with yearly cleanings? Etc. But normally furnaces last from 15 to 20 years some up to 30.
Why isn’t my boiler is not giving me the volume of hot water as it did before? Many times boiler coils are bombarded by hard water. These minerals accumulate in the coil restricting the flow and exposure of water to the actual heating surface. Naturally the flow slows. Our techs are equipped to handle this problem. Normally a “coil cooking” is in order and fixes the problem. No, you generally don’t need to buy a new boiler!
Can you install oil tanks? Kreiser’s is a full service company and will gladly install new tanks. We have the equipment and the know-how.
What is a degree-day? A degree-day is a method used to monitor the temperature above 65º F for cooling factors and below 65º F. for heating degrees. These factors are translated into charts that track and accumulate this information to use as heat requirements or cooling requirements to calculate the consumption of oil. |
